RUARK’S R5 HIGH FIDELITY MUSIC SYSTEM READY TO ROCK AND ROLL

Ruark started as a speaker brand, but more recently it’s been busy launching a flurry of svelte all-in-one audio systems of the calibre of the new R5.

The R5 delivers a lot of the features and sound of the flagship R7. As for looks and styling, they’re in the same league as the R7.

The R5 oozes quality. It has a sensuously shaped cabinet studded with glistening metal and glass components finished off with the warmth of a wrap-around grill covering the facia.

The R5’s cabinet is made using a walnut veneer that has been tweaked and damped to reduce resonances.

Ruark also makes the R5 in a grey lacquer finish. Either finish aside, the R5 looks retro as well as having a hip feel.

Features abound. And they’re the latest must-haves including the multi-room function. It's ready to provide music around your home when it’s wirelessly linked to the brand’s MRx, R2 or R7 models.

There’s also a 'Rotodial' dial mounted on top of the R5. This is like a universal controller that gives users access to the R5’s features. The R5 also comes with a remote control made to look like the Rotodial, a nice touch. This remote works using radio frequencies, so it doesn’t need to face the R5 to work.

Completing this rather crisp design is a large OLED screen that displays the R5’s functions.

Feature wise the R5 lives up to its billing as a complete system.

Users can enjoy a CD player, DAB/FM and internet radio and there’s support for Bluetooth aptX HD and Wi-Fi streaming. A discrete built-in phono stage ensures vinyl buffs can use their turntables with the R5.

Ruark also has a free app called Ruark Link for R5 buyers. This allows for full control of the R5 with iOS or Android devices and is also superb for managing multi-room setup and control.

The R5 is available now and sells in Australia for $1,999 RRP.
