    Vintage CD players

Does anyone know much about ancient Philips CD players?? I have just inherited one and am having some trouble. It seems to skip on just about all the new CD's i play in it (The player was manufactured in 1988). Is this just old technoloy or a laser unit out of alignment??

    Any help appreciated

the laser isn't out of alignment but is most likely completely stuffed or simply very dirty.

lasers are like a light bulb ie: will last a long time but the more you use em the quicker they wear out & they do have a limited life span.

Take it to a reputable repairer...ask them to thoroughly clean the lense & see if this fixes the problem...if it does it will more than likely be a temporary solution anyways, given the cd players age....if this doesn't fix it then ask them to quote for a full laser replacement.

rough price fitted ?? anywhere between $180 - $400 depending on make , model & availability.

obviously at the higher price point you'd have to question whether or not you just get a new one
