    Full range floor standers

Have just returned my floor standers to original and sold them.
Looking for speakers that are properly full range, these should fill the room with enjoyable music.
Intend to avoid using a sub as reinforcement if possible.
Cabinet size not an issue – open to all suggestions from Chi fi through the usual brands to locally constructed.

Tend to spin shiny discs that often contain blues or guitar driven rock.
Amps are SS with reasonable power

Pet dislikes are “head in a vice” (very restricted listening position), the “over fidelity syndrome” (often achieved by stripping mids and upper bass while messing with the leading edge and decay)

    All suggestions considered

    Cheers
    James

    Fair question

Audio is (for me) an emotional pass time – if I like (And can afford) I tend to purchase.

Perhaps single digit thousands as a guide.

For example I was quite taken with a pair of Genesis 350s but cant reach that far.

Perversely there is a strong aversion to the idea of paying over the odds for goods. (Aware of a local vendor wanting 3 x the current US price for what may well be reasonable units.)

Equally perversely the cheapest speakers I have recently owned are head and shoulders better than the more revered and expensive units I have owned.
It is all about the music.

That trader is actually a forum member...

Has a W4S dac2 which he is absolutely loving and has gone for some seriously high end head fi gear attached to it.

There are also that pair of Sonus Faber Grand Piano Domus on trademe atm http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics...-469295904.htm. Sadly not in teak and not a current model. They've been relisted a few times.

IIRC I think MW disliked the G. Piano Domus, preferring the older G. Piano (sans Domus).

I've only briefly heard the liuto tower which is a completely different beast. I was impressed with the exciting snap and zing - sonus reviews always talk about the smooth musical warmth, but I was pretty impressed to hear such a visceral output.

Not me, that would be the other Michael.

    The Images are nice

Later ones did away with the ugly bung holes and used magnetically attached grilles.

    Hi Guys

Thanks for all the help and PMs – have a number of interesting options to consider.

K2s are a great speaker and I will get back to you if the other available options are not suitable. Last time I checked there were no new K2s about and Harman was unsure if they would do another manufacturing run.

Current thoughts are to go to an active setup

Having gone to fully active crossovers several years ago, I would be very hard pressed to go back. Its not a cheap way to do things though.
