Does anyone know whether there are any progressive DVD players available in New Zealand with 15-pin VGA outputs? There appear to be several available in Australia (Sonken, Omni, Wintel) but I have no idea whether we have them in this country.
They sound like a much more user-friendly option than HTPCs.

I bought the Sonken dv2600 from www:duratone.com.au they are in Canberra and shipped it too me. It has the dsub15 out and it produces an Amazing Pal progressive picture with my Sanyo Z1 projector. Only $500AUD too.:)

Thanks Davee. I've contacted a dealer in Aus and he was quite happy to ship a 2600 to NZ. I'm also considering shipping a Skyworth 1050P from Hong Kong, which is a little cheaper and includes the Sage/Faroudja FLI2200 deinterlacer. Can't make up my mind which one to get!
It's amazing what a difference in PQ using these players with PS via VGA out makes (my AE100 looks like a completely different machine!)

What about a PC? Surely that must be fairly competitive against some of these other players? This would be puurrrfect...

Jay, that smallform PC looks pretty nice. There's a dealer in Auckland that sells them. I'll have to dig some more. Cheers.

When you say 15 pin VGA output from DVD player, is that the same plug socket as found on normal PC video cards?
I have a Pioneer DVD player which has a D1/D2 D-video plug, but this is a little smaller than the kind of socket found on a VGA computer card.. is that kind of what you are after?
I had a look ad for the Sonken 2600.. It looks like a very well featured machine for the money they are asking... no macrovision as well.

Yes, it's exactly the same plug as that found on video cards. D1/D2 is a little different (I've seen a Marantz 4300 with one of these also, but my projector doesn't accept this input).
I broke down and ordered a Skyworth 1050P from Hong Kong earlier today, so should get one within the week.
BTW, I went into town hunting for a VGA-equipped player yesterday and couldn't find one, but if I didn't need this output I would have been very tempted by the Marantz DV-4300. Only $1000 and PAL/NTSC progressive out of the box. Very nice!
