Heya all,
Here is my system that i have been building for the last 3 years.
I cant see how to attach more that 1 picture to each post so I will have multiple posts.
Rotel RCD-991 CD Player
Rotel RC-1090 Stereo Pre-Amp
Rotel RSP-1070 HT Processor
Rotel RB-1090 Stereo Power Amp
Rotel RMB-1070 HT Power Amp
Butt-kicker 2 Tactile Bass Unit
Panasonic PT-AE500 Projector
HTPC - All the bells and whistles
AudioQuest speaker cable - All bi-wire - Slate for the Mains and Center
AudioQuest interconnects - Balanced for CD-Pre and Pre-Power
Image Reference Main Speaker <- O for Awesome
Image Studio Reference for Rears and center Rears
Image AVC 400 Center Speaker
Image AVS 200 Subwoofer
3" Thick Polished Granite Slabs for all components and speakers (500kg)
Custom LED lighting system
I'm still to build my custom rack for the components on the middle slab and also a custom stand for the center channel.
Cheers
Greg

That is a really sweet setup. Those rears look a tad close to the seating position? Also how much noise is there with the PC and projector in quiet moments?
Nice one:D

Heya Des,
As you can see i'm limited in space at the rear. The speakers have all been calibrated so it still sounds mint.
You cant really here the PC and Projector when watching movies and i'm not that fussy about it when it comes to HT.
But for Hi-Fi they are both off so you get a clean as sound.
Also i do have some power filters in place and actually had a new power loop installed through the lounge.
The Stainless Steel foot spikes where custom made by myself. The perks of being and Engineer :)

Tell me more about your screen...
Suicyco
10th March 2005, 01:54 PM
The screen is just 120" pull down screen that i got with the projector from harvery norman. Not sure what brand it is but is just a plain white fabric.
The day i got the projector me and a friend shot down to my work at about 8pm and fabricated up some stainless brackets that are screw to the side walls. The chains that it is hanging on are actually just pot hangers from the wharehouse and i do actually beleive they were a bargin.

What the @#%$ are those blue lights under the stands?
Suicyco

The lights are a custom built LED panel i had made. Basically a circular board with 12 LED's on each with the outer ring angled outward. I built the power box for it myself.
I can post more pics if required.

(each to their own, Michael, not all of the world follows to your drum beat).
I reckon the LEDs would provide some pretty cool ambient light when listening to music.
ps. great set up, suicyco.

The lights are an awesome mood setter for those late night music sessions. They give the room an excellent atmosphere.
They are great for giving that movie theatre feeling when watching movies aswell. They do not influence the projector output at all.
But as dafman says, each to there own.

In keeping with that theme: "That system has got the madd skillz..." :D
Your extremely massive stereo power amp is impressive. In fact it appears to be bigger than my sub! Looks like you need a room twice the size.

Awesome system you have put together, can you describe how it sounds? l am guessing huge, dynamic and very authorative :D
Where did you get the garnite amp stands from, l am looking for something similar for my Plinius.

Propbably needs to be in another thread, what material is most ideal for isolation. Are they needed if amp(s) are sitting on a concrete floor? What about a slab being used onto top of spikes or vibrapods (or similar) sitting on a rack or shelf to isolate pre-amps and players.
I'm sure I've read somewhere (maybe even in another thread here) that some stones resonates where as others don't. The consideration is granite, marble, travertine maybe even those new-age man-made materials like corian or those that are quartz based.

The granite was sourced from an engineering supplier we use. They are actually precision surface tables for marking out and QA work. I got them polished at Tretheweys granite and marble. The polishing is by far the most expensive part.
The cheapest option is to buy headstones from Trethwey's as they buy them fom china pre-polished.
Be advised thou that they are very heavy, around 75Kg per slab. So if you are going to have them on spikes you may have to protect your floor. They are real back breakers to move around and position.
Granite is the same density approx as aluminum, around 2700kg/m³. It has excellent dampening properties. Slate and marble are also good.
Cast Iron is also excellent for vibration damping but weighs close to 3 times as much and obvisously steps would have to taken to prevent corrion.
When placing speakers on the granite you wont the speakers attached firmily to it. This is because you are using the weight to make the speakers effectively un-movable so you dont loose any energy.
The granite for the components is there to just deaden vibration and it does a good job of do so.

Sui,
Really impressive system , well put together and thought out.
I am also headed down the marble or granite amp stand route- do you have any thoughts on marble vs granite for vibration deadening? ALso, I really like the spikes you made- any commercial sources for those of us who lack the skills to DIY?
Congrats,
Kevin
p.s. I think the blue lighting looks great- each to their own.

Great setup - Ive actually done the same thing with my amps and have the centre sitting in the middle.
Difference is I skimped a bit - Ive just used concrete slabs from Mitre10, bogged & sanded smooth and then painted black.
Mondie,
Ive got a black SA-102 sitting on one and it looks great. Very cheap but is so simple & clean looking.
I done it a while back because I didnt want to pay $200 for a custom stand. I was supprised at how effective it was... Give it a go.

I dunno but I reckon they'd sure look great if you were stoned silly.
I really like the massive ganite slabs though. Shame about the yucky tartan carpet (suppose it's a a male thing?) & lack a wall absorption.
I don't understand "When placing speakers on the granite you want the speakers attached firmily to it. This is because you are using the weight to make the speakers effectively un-movable so you dont loose any energy." Loose energy? Is that the reactive movement of a speaker enclosure reponding to the drivers movemement causing the loss we are talking about?

Well people do speak of this, but In the scheme of things I think the effect is minimal.
More important are the enclosure panels being damped sufficiently,as their area is always many times the driver area, they dont need to move much to produce annoying noises.
Spikes, and decoupling the speaker enclosures from the floor are another issue that I havent seen much data on but quite popular.
