I think one of the tweets is shot so I would like to get in and have a dig around - any suggestions?
They are well out of warranty, I would like to fix them but funds are very tight!
Oh yeah my Loewe Callida died too - what a week!

Pull out the bungs which the grill mounts on. Under those you will find some screws. These hold the front plastic baffle on. The tweeter is mounted in that baffle from memory. This will reveal the midrange mounting screws also.
To remove the grill covering the woofer, remove the plinth ( lay the speakers on the floor )
Good luck, and I hope that your tweeter is not blown! Were you getting a bit excited with the volume control?

Thanks TT, I had looked very suspiciously at those bungs!
I think the Missions were fighting with the sub and 'her indoors' let rip a bit much!
I have temporarily swapped them for some small paradigm outdoor speakers which seem to gel better.

the Mission distributor is in auckland - can't remember his name. check it on the mission website... very helpful and good guy.
I sent and replaced one tweeter for a mission 753 - still had stock, and didn't cost the earth (about 100 bucks).
I new something was wrong with one tweeter but I could only slightly hear it with solo piano music - it was a kind of very slight vibration/rattle.
he thought there wasn't anything wrong but I persisted and said - "yup there is" he ran lots of tests and eventually said "yup there is too!".
shipped down another and bob's your uncle! - they can even be matched by serial num too I think? - but give it a go they're relatively cheap to replace

Have they swapped distributor recently (just before last xmas)?
I had my 78c in for a check up (mid/bass units leaking:() and was told to check back this year to get them sorted - after the new agent has settled in, it's still on my 'round to it' list.

Got into them! Man those tweeters are small!
The magnet on the woofer is quite small too, the only one that looks ok is the mid.
As with other threads wiring looks average - maybe something to work on later.
A quick measure shows ~6 Ohms, at least it's not open circuit!

Yeah, when I pulled my 783's apart I was stunned that I had just paid about $3K ( in 2000 ) for them and only got a plastic basket midrange and small motor assemblies on the tweeter and woofer. However, I never blew them, and did enjoy reasonably loud music from them often. I also was very satisfied with the sound they produced, and as such, didnt worry about the appearance of the drivers.
Pulling my JM Lab Electras apart, however, I see how real speakers are made! The tweeter weighs well over 1Kg, the midrange about 3 or 4 times that, and the the woofers, well... Possibly 6 or 7 Kg. Price for weight, their about the same ratio as the missions :)
In spite of the apparent low cost drivers, your 782's still compare very favorably against similarly priced offerings today, so just listen to them and enjoy.
they also look much nicer than many offerings of today.
