Michael, what speakers did you use for the review? I know from personal experience that this amp works pretty well with 8 ohm speakers, but I heard one driving a pair of harder to drive focal Utopias ( Maestros ) and it certainly got harder sounding once the volume came up a little in comparison to an easier load. The Maestros drop to around 3 ohm apparently - similar to B&W 802's and 703's. This is something that the ( far ) more expensive Krell gear is not known to do. I liked the unit, although the dealer ( A high profile Sydney based one ) disliked this unit intensely. I think that it was a butchering of the brand in his opinion, which is maybe a little over the top!. What he did do was to put on a range of $3 - 4K amps - I believe the 300i retails for $3.5K in Oz, and the playing field showed up that the Krell was being priced somewhat based on its name as opposed to its true abilities. These included items from Electrocompaniet, Marantz, Cyrus and Musical Fidelity. Also thrown in the mix was a Rotel integrated which was about 1/3 the cost of the others, and it was not the bottom performer. Ya don't always get what ya pays for.

How would you feel about this statement having reviewed the 300i?
