Hi,

A question...

I am looking for a preamp at the moment to replace a Musical Fidelity V3-pre. It will probably be used to drive active speakers at some point

Budget is around 4k NZ. I'd be interested in some recommendations

Looking at Trademe I noticed the following - possibly good deals?

Do you want a DAC with that preamp?

Heya

Maybe but I am probably going to get a Metrum Octave

The new Perreaux Audient should be considered

I was thinking integrated but the Octave looks promising, a bit like the Valab design, but newer chips.

Depends a bit on how you want your sound to be tailored? I owned an SLP-03 for a while and found it had very little tube character. Might as well have had a solid state pre.

There are lots of other options at your budget. The Modwright SWL-9SE is very good for the money, better in my opinion that the Cary SLP-03.
