Hi,
I'm in the market for an amp & speakers, it's been some 24 years since I've really looked at audio gear. Kids!
I need advice on amp/speaker combo to $4000. I don't mind buying good second hand gear.
We listen to range of music but mainly pop & heavy metal.
I've searched through the forums but need some help
All advice welcome.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Welcome to AudioEnz flossie, is it only an amp and speakers your after, or do you need to put in for a CD/Media player or Turntable as well? Also what sort of room size are you expecting to fill?
If you private message member 'Neil' in this forum, he would be able to point you in the right direct for speakers and an integrated amp, he works at Turned-on Audio (The friendliest and most diverse hifi store in NZ and they do great cash deals, sorry Neil:)), and I'm sure they would courier the gear to you without an worries. I'm thinking that some Monitor Audio bronze or silver floor standers would be very good, amp wise not sure what they have in store at the moment but they used to stock some very well priced Marantz integrated amps which being slightly mellow would match the energetic MA's well and would leave some cash for cables and a good second hand CD player.
Only food for thought, talk to the pro's, Neil will be able to help without the high pressure bull crap. BTW I have nothing to do with Turn-on Audio, I'm only saying this because every time I've dealt with them, it's been a great experience.
Cheers James.

Welcome, flossie. Wow - 24 years since you were last into audio! I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the sound quality you can get for your budget, nowadays!
In order for us to help, perhaps you can give us some more details of your situation? I see you are in Kapiti. Have you been to any stores already and developed some ideas of what you like and dislike? Apart from the big brand stores, you could try the Real Music Company in Marion St, Soundline Audio (147 Thorndon Quay), and Sound Expression (Willis St). Its a good time to be shopping with cash in your pocket!
Also, how big is your room and how is it laid out? Being a heavy metal fan, how big do you want the sound to get?

Um, the Digital Lounge, 15 Ihakara Street, Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast, Wellington. Being local they can show you how the gear sounds.

Umm, yes you could try someone local and that might make better sense..
