View Full Version : AARGH!!!! Damn turntable nonsense...

Firstly my tt rca connections on the amp came loose and had to be replaced.
Then I munted my recently purchased dyn 20x when dusting the turntable.
And now the left channel of a recently purchased secondhand dyn p75II has just died!!!
Checked the cables, cart etc and seems all is not well with one channel going through the phono stage. As well as one Katipo cable also having a dodgey connection complicating my findings.
Almost ready to give up on this vinyl lark... :-(
Esp, as newly arrived wolfroy goes to town is warped and master and everyone distorts like it's been thru a fuzz box (or is that how it's meant to sound?).
Rant over...whiskey handy.
Any ideas on the dyn phono or who best to look at it before I throw it through the window?

Comiserations :(
Vinyl is the most neurotic part of what is the most neurotic hobby - can certainly drive you nuttier than squirrel poo :)

It looks like Newbie has had his share of dodgyconnections...

:D I have had a fair few myself - very high up the frustration ladder.
Crashing a cartridge does bring home the lunacy of turntables notwithstanding that those expensive diamond tips are wearing with every record! If only they didn't sound so good...

Newbie,
Tried the usual swapping of cable plugs at input then output of the P75?
(To confirm if the prob is in the P75 or in the cable plug/s.)

Tried all sorts of combos, established that one cable was a bit iffy so replaced it, got right channel out of cart ok so used this output into the dud left side. Nothing coming out of left channel, even when swapping left to right cables from phono to amp etc.
Confirmed again by putting the dyn in another system...
!Ha!. My auto spell correct keeps swapping "dyn" for "fun" - how weirdly inappropriate... :-P

Mind you, that "fun" 17d3 on trader is awfully tempting, as is Paul's well temp!

Hi Cliff,
On the DV-P75 Take off the lid and make sure none of the jumpers have wiggled loose.
With the DV-17D3 you will notice a large gain in detail on the DV-20x. I upgraded from a DV-10MKIV to the 17 and difference was huge.

Bad run Cliff. I'd get the P75 into a shop just to save further angst. As far as discs go, I've had a bad run on new record quality too, plus I destroyed a new 10x5 recently - that's where you came in. So, to hopefully ease the blood pressure a few here have been thru all of the above. Rarely do you fully recover, but you will recover.

Giving up in disgust?
Yes, digital is the way forward... :D

Yep, I am under no great impression that digits will rule especially as they improve and the likes of the Olive Grove make it easier to transgress.
I will keep at least one black spinner, maybe more. Depends what I can get for them. Looks like I may get to keep them all by the way tts are selling nowadays.

Understandable - I think the love of vinyl is only partly due to sound and a lot to do with feelings of ritual and nostalgia. I absolutely love playing records, the whole fiddly ritual, it makes me feels good. I know I can get similar or better sound from digital but I have almost zero interest in it - just all a bit clinical for me. Horses for courses I guess. But choosing vinyl on sound only can lead to big frustrations if you don't have a love for all the 'annoying quirks' involved - because there a quite a few :D

OTOH playing with vinyl & TTs can be a PITA.
But the SOUND is what keeps me punishing myself
