RIP Paul Motian

I learnt this morning that Paul Motian had died aged 80.IMO , on e of the most quietly influential musicians of the last 30-40 years. La Faro got a lot of the kudos for the stellar Evans trio but people forget that Motian was a key component as well.Such control of rhythm , tonal shadings , drive... a real jazz musicians drummer. Recently played a bit with Lee Konitz , Brad Mehldau so accessible to the younger breed.
RIP man- you'll be missed. A Motian night tonight in the room , I think.

Thanks for that. I also enjoyed his playing with the Evans group, and he also appeared on Charlie Haden's 'Liberation Music Orchestra' album. Will let my mate Eddie know so he can play a tribute on his jazz show tomorrow night.
