I was cleaning my stylus today without my glasses on and busted my stylus, pushed it in a bad way and screwed it. That is the first time in 30 years that anything bad happened. Always put your glasses on. What a dick!!!. The good news is I need a new cartidge. The dead one was a Dynavector DVx 20 high. I was thinking about replacing it with a Lyra Dorian. Any others that I should consider around $1000- $1800?

Bugger! That's one of my worst fears! You and Analogism, eh?
How about a Benz Glider? Does it have to be high output?

I'm just waiting for my turn! There's those that have and those that will:)
As Andrew said, Benz Glider and Ace.
Clearaudio Symphony, is stunning sounding but has a big cantilever.
Plenty of new high quality MM's from Soundsmith if you want to go down that road.
If you like the DV sound and it works well in your system maybe look at what DV you can get for $1800.

The Mk2 version of the DV20XL would be worth a look and your dead DV cart should be worth money as a trade with a Dynavector dealer.

As cooksferry says the DV-20x2 Low Output if you can, otherwise they still do the High Output version too. Next up would be the DV-17D3 karat, but his would be pushing the upper limit of your budget - it has a much shorter cantilever though ;)
As far as Lyra, if you can find a Dorian you should be able to get it at a reasonable price (and within your budget) as it has been replaced by the Delos, which is supposed to be a marked improvement over the Dorian but more expensive.

Curses, these things happen in threes! So who is next....
Anyway, this has piqued my interest, so if a bid war occurs my TM tag is siallen....
But at least you know what to expect soundwise!

Looks like the auction is for a MkI version - these were reduced to around the $895 mark to clear stock when the mkII was introduced.

$500 would be max for a Mk1, the Mk 2 is much better (and works superbly on an Amadeus), IMHO it out-performs the DV17D3.
It's a shame the Dorian stereo is OOP (mono is still available), it was a fine cartridge at a fair price, the replacement Delos is a lot more :(

Agree 100% with Michael on the mkI pricing (hence my mention of their run out price).
I was going to mention the Dorian too as, IIRC, that was also discounted when the Delos was introduced. The one I would love to hear is the Kleos, which replaced the Helikon.
I only ever heard the Dorian on a WTA Amadeus and, while impressive, it wasn't quite me. I love the DV-20x2L on my P9 though.

Hi, Thanks for all your offers and advise on the new cart. John from Shore Hi Fi has given me a great deal on the Dorian, I've heard the combo before and liked it. So it's a Dorian for me. Thanks again.
