With 30+ years of Hi Fi and Cat and Dog ownership I wondered if anyone else had experienced a pet responding to the Hi Fi?
The three dogs we have owned over this period were all oblivious to the sound, but 2 out of the 7 cats we have owned (or been staff for - as the joke goes), definitely had a real interest and would both chose the sweet spot and face forwards with their ears semaphoring their response to the music.
Don’t want to be represented as a sad old git sitting alone playing vinyl, who attempts to find human qualities in his companion pets (I do have other macho interests such as surfing) BUT there is definitely a connection with one of my current cats as she is always present when any serious listening goes down and the volume is high.
What’s the view of the Forum, do pets enjoy Hi Fi, or am I just pussy struck?

Stellar and Morpheus (the 2 siamese in my avatar) liked watching TV but not movies. Too noisey for them. They never showed any interest in music.

I had two cats who would leave the room or give me the evil eye if I played cds, they were quite happy if I changed to lps.

My cats seem to hear noises within the music has them pricking their ears up as though a creature is rustling in behind the speakers.

Dante Fluff enjoys Baroque music but is suspicious of Noise Rock and Free Jazz. He finds digital downloads soporific, as illustrated below...7223

Only a white, lazy, glutinous, self centered, evil eyed cat that decided it was good form to sleep on my power amp. It only did that once...SPCA. The dog used to roll her eyes at me as if to say...

I used to have a dog that loved the old RnB Group Rose Royce. Everytime Gwen Dickey hit those high notes especially on Love dont live here anymore he would howl and wag his tail....does that count? ;)

Wow - SPCA for sleeping on a power amp. Tough guy.

Yes but does the SPCA have nice warm amps to sleep on?

The 200P does run on 4 ohms :D

Dodge, probably not but I suspect "it" (the cat) would enjoy a change of scenery, at least that's what I recommend to the wife to no avail. Jees the thing went missing for 3 days and I was accused of burying it in the garden! Anyways it has just enough intelligence to not sleep on the amp anymore, but not enough to stop waking us up in the middle of the night. Not a cat lover at the best of times, but it seems I'm always the one that feeds it. It's a strange relationship.

from an earlier forum;
Most memorable is waking suddenly from my unintended slumber by the boom of my old rega 3's arm dropping off the edge of the platter due to the kitten that had climbed up and was now rotating on the turntable.

Is the white one with blue eyes deaf? Most are. My one (Eddie the bonnet surfer - now passed (Car vs deaf cat)) used to love lying on top of the speakers when they were cranked up because of the vibration I think.

A legacy of the now passed, Angel, a rag doll, is a series of pin prick holes in our black out curtains and some ragged edges in my Castle Eden's covers.

I'm very happy that Angel helped my wife develop an allergy to fines which meant she (Angel, not the wife) wasn't replaced.
