Just got a old garrard turntable which unbelievablly adapted with a built-in speaker, just wondering if there is any antique turntable service in auckland that can remove and rewire it. Thanks.

It's SP25 MK IV, Owen.

That's a real good looker (I have an SP10 Mk II).
Do you mean it's been put in a cabinet & wired to amp & spkr?
Can you elaborate a bit more plse?

The SP25 turntable was included as part of an AWA Series 9 stereo. My dad bought one in (mumble) and I inherited it years later.

That's good that you found a turntable, Georgios. Collective opinion seems to be that you have something reasonably decent.
Cheers,

Err - did you notice that none of the former owners mentioned the things sonic virtues? How why do you think that might have been?

Thanks, Dom. The turntable is really good looking, however, it's not working properly which gives me a chance to understand what a turntable is. Now I'm trying to find out models of cartridge and stylus so that I can replace them. Cheers.

Well, maybe so, but it seems they all went on to substantially explore the turntable world, so seems to be a good starting point. Maybe it gives just enough to pique the senses?

I have two Garrards - a 301 and 401. No experience with a SP25, but if it is a mechanical problem, I may be able to help. Drop me a PM if you like.
Also, may want to ping the Garrard forums:

Thank you, gortnipper. PM sent. Actually There is a menchanical problem with my sp25, the pickup arm doesn't stay in the rest when I release the safety, it will jump to left a little bit off, and autoplay didn't work. If I try to use it, the pickup arm will fall down before arriving the record.
