I have been buying from here:
http://store.acousticsounds.com/AcousticSounds
Pinetop Perkins / Pinetop Perkins.....................$15.00
Bill Evans Trio / Waltz For Debby......................$25.00
Honeyboy Edwards / Shake 'Em On Down.........$15.00
Roberta Flack / Killing Me Softly.......................$24.98
Subtotal: $ 79.98
Shipping total: $32.00
Order Total: $111.98USD
But it's getting a little pricey. Worked out to be $34 for 4 titles shipped.
Haven't tried many others, but with dollar so high it's still getting up there. And it will eventually drop which will make this site too expensive. So if anyone has any alternatives?

amazon.co.uk is good at the moment as shipping is free for orders over £25, and they deduct VAT when shipping to NZ. Also bought some vinyl from dragcity.

All of my recent purchases have been used records from Real Groovy Queen St.

Graham,
What have they been like?
Have thought about RG, but have been put off by the parking........
Finally got a new cartridge, so don't want to play my old scratched records.

Mostly Amazon.com, since they have changed there packing method I have had no problems with damaged records. There shipping cost is cheap and if you are unhappy with your purchase you can always return it no questions asked and they will even refund the return shipping cost. If they don't have what I am looking for then I try and find out what label the records on and see if there is an online store.

Most of my lps come from either Amazon US or UK. I dont consider the shipping too bad and hard to beat the free ship at the UK site plus they deduct VAT.
For items on my really must have list that dont turn up at Amazon then it's EBay, GEMM,Discogs,Aural Exploits or more often these day I go to record label or band shops.
I've managed to dig up some hard to find records just by doing a google search with the lp title and bypassing the better known sellers.
The most frustrating thing with Amazon 3rd party sellers is sometimes seeing the number of cheap items available only to domestic buyers that we cant access.
I have been building up a data base of label and band stores and maybe its time to start a sticky thread in the music section as this question keeps poping up on a fairly regular basis.

Parking is a bit of a problem, I usually find a park in the back streets behind RG and keep feeding the damn meter.
They have a small range of new vinyl and a huge range of used.
The used that have been sorted are in very good condition having been through a RCM and prices vary depending on condition and popularity.
The unsorted ones down the back in the" bargain bins" vary in condition and price from 'very good' to 'dont bother'.
I try any potential purchase on the available headphone equipped turntables first because as you know a spotlessly clean record can still sound awfull if the previous owner has not cared for it.
Check it out, I'm sure you will find something in there.
Graham.

Locally, RG and, every now and again, Marbecks – but mostly from Amazon UK/US. More specialist stuff from Syn-Phonic http://synphonic.8m.com
And Burning Shed www.burningshed.com

I've used the following:

http://www.musicdirect.com/
http://www.intamusic.co.nz/
http://www.cdwow.co.nz/
http://www.hifigallery.co.nz/
Elusive Disc has a great range but shipping has now got prohibitive.
Cd Wow has some good pricing but quality can be hit and miss.

Cooks a sticky would be a great idea!
I recently ordered the Tom Petty 'Damn The Torpedoes' Reissue from his own web store, which is run by Live Nation. This appears to only be available from US retailers, whose shipping is always more expensive and their unit cost and shipping cost was the best of the bunch.
After ordering I got my invoice and the fine print said that international orders under $200 would be sent via airmail instead of courier! I tried to change the physical delivery address to a postage box before the item shipped but all I got was a random reply about not being able to track international orders. Who knows how long it's going to take to turn up now!
Generally I find shipping from the UK a lot quicker (and cheaper) than from the UK!
Having said that i've been waiting two weeks now for a Hunt EDA Brush that I ordered from a UK source... The annoying thing about this transaction is that the billed me straight away and when I asked them a few days later why it hadn't shipped I was told it was out of stock and they wouldn't have stock for four weeks. So billed in July and still waiting for delivery in September.
I order running shoes online too and they generally take four days to get to me from Ireland - that's service!
Sorry for the ramblings... feels good to get this off my chest though:)

Cooks a sticky would be a great idea!
I started to do one in the music section this morning and was nearly finished when I hit the page delete button by mistake. Obviously not at my best at 4am.
I'll have another crack at starting one over the weekend. I have quite a few shops and band sites and it would be great to see a data base established, ideally with links and any relevent information to that site. The only criteria to make it worth while is that the poster will have had to used the seller so that all feedback is based on actual experience, be it good or bad.
Something to do to avoid World Cup OD.

I'm Wellington based so get some from Slow boat on Cuba, the rest I get from http://www.insound.com/ in the states. I tried amazon.uk but the packing was shocking
I'll be checking out the newly opened 'Rough Peel Music' on Vivian when I get the chance, buying online is ok but there's nothing like rifling through the racks

Good to see a new record shop opening up in Welly. I can drop in there on my way to Hop Garden.

Had a quick looksie in Rough Peel Music ( a mash up of Rough Trade and John Peel?) yesterday as we were in Wgtn for the w/e. Impressive selection of vinyl, new and old.

I was in Rhythm Records at 3 Lamps in Ponsonby and was told they are the only retail shop owned by Roger Marbeck, hence the great new vinyl selection. Quite a bit of it is often on sale.

Real Groovy in Queen Street, the bargain bins are worth the trawl through, and you do get the opportunity to play beofre you buy. Almost without question I have found RG to put out flat and unscratched records even at their silly bin price level. Album covers are not always in good nick but if you play more than collect then this is the best place.
Also the odd punt on Trade Me, only worth it if you can collect as NZ Post/Couriers have no idea how to handle a 12" wide thin parcel marked 'fragile' (rare East of Eden album jammed in my newspaper slot - even though it was a signature required). Also as I own a big collection TM can be hit and miss on 'collections' as people all bought the same stuff and generally follow the same music patterns for each gendre. I probably glean 5 out of 100 and give the rest away to mates as I cant be arsed selling them. TM also suffers from 'found it in the shed' syndrome when you initially feel stoked to score 80 albums for $60, until you see them, with all the evidence that they had been replacing the floor space at many parties. Still, every now and then this method does result in some true gems.
Overall though Real Groovy is the clear winner, but allow two to three hours, and expect sciatica if over 40 from standing up for so long.
Also, and this was on another thread not so long ago, how do you insure 3000+ vinyl records which took me 40 years to collect?

Totally agree, esp the second to last sentence...
As for insurance, talk to them, take photos of them, list the more exotic ones with some ref to other sales/sites. It does take time but worth it I reckon. I got charged about $75 extra for a fair replacement value, not an exhorbitant amount all things considered. Otherwise, depending on the insurer they get valued at a couple of dollars each if you're lucky!

For the Welly crowd- there is a new record store opening in Berhampore in a couple of weeks.Apparently one of the two owners used to run a record shop in ChCh. Premises bought , fit out being done at moment.
It is 5 minutes from me- would only be neighbourly to pop in and welcone them to 'da hood.

I got to have a quick look through the shop today he isn't officially opening until Saturday but has been opening his doors for about an hour each day just before midday. From what I saw he looks to have a good cross section of music from Metal, Rock, Pop, Punk, Folk and Country. He has second hand vinyl and cds and is also stocking new vinyl!! Prices looked fairly reasonable for the new vinyl starting from around $30 to $50. I did spy a new copy of Fairport Conventions - Liege And Lief on the 4 Man With Beards label for around $35 and a new copy of Townes Van Zandt - s/t.
Think I may have make regular visits when he opens.
