Would anyone have available a Step Up Transformer - could even be that old one you have had under the stairs and maybe haven't used in ages -I'm thinking maybe Supex or Ortofon) that I could borrow for a few days to check the suitability of a mm phono stage.
I've left it a bit late before of thinking to ask on this forum but I need it by this coming Tuesday 6th. I'm in Christchurch.
Many thanks, Stuart

Step-up TXs (for a MC cartr I presume?) are not things that can be easily just thrown into a system & expect to produce immediately a meaningful result. (Trust me, I've been there many times.) More often than not, some form of non-optimal matching ensues & the cartr or SUT or phonostage else gets the blame.

You need to balance not only suitable gain, but load impedance determined by the SUT ratio.

So... the most important Q is, what is the cartr in question?
