I am in Hawkes Bay and my trusty and ancient Plinius SA100 has never been serviced and is still going strong, although I suspect there may be a minor channel imbalance. I don't really want to ship it to Christchurch for a service - is there a Plinius experienced and decent service centre in Hawkes Bay or the Manawatu or at least closer than the South Island?

Be sure to check your other components first, Tim.
Go through the system, swapping L/R ch connections, one plug pr at a time until you discover if the imbalance moves ch's. Frequently, RCA cable connections can become faulty. Or another component may be the culprit. Let us know how if you have success.

Hi Owen, yes I did all the obvious and logical checks, thanks. Before posting I established that my Audio Note preamp had a slight imbalance (more noticeable on phono) and sent it up to Clarry to be fixed. However, when I ran my CD player direct into the Plinius through a passive volume control I thought I still noticed a slight difference.
I should state that this all corresponds directly with the purchase of a pair of Quad ELS 2905s which have amazing detail and highlighted the imbalance. I have just realised that the Quads are very sensitive to room placement, and behind one is shelves of records, while the other has my rack, effectively transparent. When I covered the rack with a blanket any hint of an issue disappeared. I also have just moved the speakers a little closer together and I think that has nailed it. Waiting now for the preamp to be fixed and then my beloved vinyl will live again. I must say that CDs have never sounded so good as through the Quads though.
However, I would still be keen to know an experienced and reliable Plinius serviceman in the central North Island in case I do ever need one.

Yes of course.
My room has a reas severe assymmetry (in absorptive furnishing mainly) that needs addressing.

Hi Owen
I have several absorbing panels and traps in my room.
Your always welcome to borrow a few of them if you ever want to try experimenting
with your room acoustics.
