Guys,

I think this is the site I posted to a few years back with regard to sky and freeview pumping out the signal through the house.

I have "upgraded" to My Sky Plus. NOTHING else works...
If there is a kindly soul out there who can give me a clue with why the new Sky kit has completely thrown my arrangement out of kilter, please say so or point me to a place where I will be able to make decisions.

Wishing I had my old Motorola back!!!

Thanks
Tony

First point of call would be .... ummmm ... SKY

Secondly, what's been thrown out of killter? i.e what's changed? "Nothing else works"? What was the set up to start with and what is the change now?

It would help if we knew what set up you had before and then what exactly was changed in the "upgrade".

Cheers

Cool Cliff,

I have a compaint in with SKY right now, will prefer to line my ducks up before I hear back from them.

OK the old system.
Satellite signal connections.
Satellite cable into Dish TV Freeview box, F Type out to a Signal Splitter, Connection to Motorola sky decoder, connection to PC with Haupaugge Card.
40 LCD connected to all 3 devices. Yes can see freeview, sky and PC (and freeview with Windows)

Now,
Same setup, except the MySky box has replaced the old black Motorola.
Freeview has signal 72%, quality 0, MySky functioning perfectly, no signal in Haupaugge card.
So, the sky man, did his job, in the 10 minutes he had to complete the job. Tick, My Sky working....nothing else.

My trouble shooting, take the satellite cable and connect it directly to the Haupaugge. No change. reconnect to Freeview box, disconnect the My SKy, no change Freeview 72% signal, 0 quality. Try Satellite cable straight into My Sky, yip, sky works.

Conclusion, the My Sky box does something to the signal when it gets it and doesn't let any other device use it. (even though technically it is the second device to get signal, remember the standard setup for me is satellite cable to freeview, then that out to splitter and then off to SKy and Haupaugge).

Second issue.
RF Modulation.
Old way, RF out of Freeview box, into Motorola then to a Signal booster and onto the Coax network. The other TV's could get 2 channels freeview and sky. (hey it worked).

Now, I had a Jaycar RF modulator lying around, had to buy a power supply as I had lost my old one. Hooked the Yellow, Red, White to the output on the MySky, Aerial to a spare TV directly. Tried to tune it in, nothing, swithched the modulator to the other mode (there are 2) and tried tuning again....All 3 TV modes (UHF, VHF and the other one)....Nothing.
Is it busted? how can you tell? I put a multimeter on the power supply, 12.5 v. How can you check an RF signal?
Same result connecting the RF modulator to the freeview Yellow, Red and White. Nothing.
If I connect the Freeview box RF out to the TV, yes, visible, with the no picture, but 72% signal 0 % quality.

Conclusion, RF in the modulator is a "pass through", would work even if there Yellow, Red and White is not woking, and or there is no power.

May goto Jaycar tomorrow and get one of their "better" modulators.

Options from here...

1. Tell SKY to revert me back to my Dirty old Motorola.
2. Test the newer Jaycar RF modulator. (will only have sky pumped through the house)
3. and/or upgrade my total network to terrestrial UHF signal to all rooms, get new TV's with freeview, or buy Terrestrial Freeview boxes for each TV.

So far, my "deal" from SKY is looking rather expensive.

Thanks for any advice.
Much appreciated

Tony
